• Straightright's Parkinson's Boxing class

    is an exciting program, designed in conjunction with Encompass Health Rehabilitation and Washington Regional Hospitals in Northwest Arkansas, specifically for those living with Parkinson's Disease.

    The Goal

    To return PD patients to leading active, independent lives through the benefits of our non-contact boxing classes.

    The Program

    This on-going class will aide in PD rehabilitation by improving:

    • Balance

    • Vocal strength

    • Memory reaction time

    • Cognitive functions

    • Quality of life

  • Program Background

    Our program was crafted and approved by Straightright founder, Kevin Lightburn, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Michael Hammel (DPT) who is also a certified Rock Steady Boxing instructor and licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, Mary Plumlee (PTA). The program has also been approved by movement disorder specialist, Dr. Alan Diamond, D.O.

    Kevin Lightburn is a USA Boxing certified coach who has been in boxing for over 33 years at the amateur, Olympic and professional levels. Kevin believes that it is important to help all clients achieve their personal goals to become the very best version of themselves. He brings his passion and expertise for boxing and fitness to every Parkinson's boxing class.

     

    We are so fortunate to have the guidance of Mary Plumlee who has an unrivaled passion for her patients in her Parkinson's Wellness and Recovery PWR Moves course taught at Encompass Health. Her passion was recognized when she was awarded the 2016 Healthsouth Outstanding Employee Achievement Award out of 27,000 employees nationwide.
